Project snapshot

The Rotary Splash Pad at Greenwood Park is a compact, high-value aquatic amenity designed to deliver multi-generational water play in a small footprint. Developed in partnership with Rotary Shelburne and the Town, the project transforms a previously underused greenspace into a colourful community focal point with approachable, low-profile water features and accessible concrete decking.

Project context

Shelburne’s community group approached Park N Play Design seeking a cost-effective, durable splash pad that could be delivered quickly, operate safely with minimal oversight and appeal to toddlers through adults. The Rotary club were principal funders and local champions — this project needed to be a proud, accessible property the whole town could use.

Our approach

We prioritized simple, high-impact solutions: a broom-finished concrete pad with integrated low-profile water features, colour-coded activators and clear approach zones to benches and pathways. Early design workshops with Rotary and municipal staff defined operating hours, water system type (flow-through vs recirculation) and siting so the pad could be turned on seasonally with minimal operational overhead.

The solution

The final installation features a kidney-shaped concrete pad hosting several clustered spray features to encourage freeform play and social interaction. Signature elements include colourful ring hoops for running-through play, an interactive multi-bucket feature, a tactile ground-level play table and a tractor-themed ride element/figure for imaginative play. Benches are placed for sightlines and caregiver supervision. The pad was built to be visually inviting, easy to maintain and welcoming to families, school groups and casual park users.

Impact & outcomes

  • Delivered a year-round park activation point that increases visitation to Greenwood Park.
  • A community-funded civic amenity that strengthened Rotary Shelburne’s local legacy.
  • A compact, low-barrier water play environment that serves multiple age groups and supports casual programming.
