Project Details

Over the years, Park N Play Design Co. Ltd. has been involved in numerous community builds fostering a positive playground experience with our customers.  These projects have included but are not limited to National Parks, municipalities of all sizes, educational facilities, and private organizations.  An excellent example of our commitment to the community led by Shelley Robinson is Leduc,  Alberta’s dinosaur-themed playground.

Literally millions of years in the making, the dinosaur-themed playground was built to commemorate the discovery of a paleontological treasure - a complete hadrosaur skeleton unearthed by excavators digging a sewer line.

Shelley Robinson worked passionately with The Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller, the developer, the Municipality of Leduc’s Community Development offices, and residents bringing the dinosaur theme to life in the form of a playground.

The playground boasts custom GFRC play sculptures threaded into PowerScape equipment that inspires imagination and captivates the interests of the users young and old.

There is a tot and senior play area each with a structure, an archaeological sand table with buried fossils waiting to be discovered, and a zip-line (the first playground zip-line installed in Alberta).

Rachel Young, Leduc’s Community Development and Project Coordinator, agreed that Shelley brought a level of balance to the project expertly managing creative expectations, historical accuracy, tight deadlines, sensitive site issues, and numerous groups with vested interests in the never-before-experienced opportunity.

After all, it is not every day that you work around the discovery of a 68-million-year-old fully articulated, complete dinosaur skeleton.

"Meadowview Dinosaur Park in Leduc will forever be one of the coolest playgrounds around. The main structure is amazing, with dinosaurs carved into a giant tree – climb inside to hit the biggest slides! Everything in the park carries the Dino theme – from the T-Rex you can ride to Dino-egg bouncer, from footprints on the stumps to the fossil excavation area! There are plenty of amazing photo ops too, of course – plus all the great playgrounds favourites like slides, climbers and monkey bars. There are swings too – 2 standard and 2 baby. This playground is based in wood chips and has several benches around it. There is usually a porta-potty on site."

Thanks to Jill from EdmontonPlaygrounds.net for the amazing photos and review.
